xAPI, also called the Experience API or Tin Can, records learning activity as statements in the shape actor, verb, object and sends them to a learning record store.
Its scope is analytics rather than integration: it describes what someone did, not how they were launched or how a grade reaches a gradebook. It is common to use LTI® for the launch and xAPI for the telemetry.
cmi5 defines how xAPI content is launched from an LMS.
