LTI®

LTI®, short for Learning Tools Interoperability, is the standard that lets a learning management system hand a user over to an external learning tool, and lets that tool read and write data back. It is governed by 1EdTech Consortium, Inc., formerly IMS Global.

Without it, every tool would need bespoke integration work for every LMS it wanted to support. With it, a tool implements the standard once and any conformant platform can launch it.

The current version is LTI® 1.3. The terms LTI® 1.3 and LTI® Advantage are often used interchangeably, though they are not quite the same thing.
