The deployment ID identifies a particular deployment of a tool within a platform. It arrives in the ID Token as the deployment_id claim.
It matters most for multi-tenant platforms, where one registration can serve many separate instances. Blackboard is the common example: several institutions can share a single registration, and the deployment ID is what tells them apart.
It is distinct from the client ID, which identifies the registration itself.
