Names and Role Provisioning Services, usually shortened to NRPS, lets a tool read the membership of a context: who is enrolled and what role each person holds.
It is how a tool can show a teacher their class list without every learner having launched first.
How much personal data comes back depends on the platform's privacy settings, so a roster may contain identifiers and roles but no names or email addresses. See retrieving the course roster.
