OneRoster is a 1EdTech standard for moving roster data — schools, courses, enrolments, and often grades — between a student information system and other software.
It overlaps with Names and Roles in what it can express, but the model is different: OneRoster is a bulk data exchange between systems, whereas Names and Roles answers a question about the specific context a launch came from.
Institutions often run both, using OneRoster for provisioning and LTI® for launching.
